If unlimited storage and data transfer at a low price are what you’re looking for, give Inmotion Hosting a try. We looked at the features and tools available with the Inmotion Hosting plans to find out whether Inmotion offers good value for money and a competitive service.

Hosting

Inmotion Hosting offers a variety of good-value plans starting with the Launch Plan, a basic plan that gives you the chance to get online simply and quickly. The Launch Plan from Inmotion Hosting provides unlimited disk space, unlimited transfer and unlimited email. With this plan you get two websites on one account and six parked domains. The price rises with the two subsequent plans – Power and Pro. The Power Plan gives you six websites on the same plan, while with the Pro Plan you get 25.

Unlike some of the other budget hosting plans you can still work with FTP on even the cheapest Inmotion Hosting plan. The Launch Plan gives you 1,000 FTP accounts, Power gives you 2,000 and there are unlimited accounts on the Pro Plan. Network uptime is reported to be 99.9 percent.

The Inmotion Hosting service also includes a website designer – take advantage of this if you are still lacking an actual website to publish. The design tools are easy to use while not the most sophisticated you’ll find. The level of compatibility with other programs, languages, apps and add-ons is excellent. If you have coding experience you can amplify your website easily by using other programs to edit and design (such as Dreamweaver and FrontPage), adding image galleries, publishing a blog, and adding audio and video. Ecommerce capabilities can be installed on the two higher-priced plans.

Domains

A free new domain or a free domain transfer is included with each plan. Domain privacy is available at an extra cost from Inmotion Hosting. This service is on a par with other web hosts.

Email

Inmotion Hosting gives you three webmail solutions for your email as well as secure POP3, IMAP and SMTP. Your email services are compatible with your wireless devices and there are also email forwarders and auto responders. Spam filters, email aliases, and customizable email filters are also available within the Inmotion Hosting packages, even with the most basic plan.

Marketing & reporting

Inmotion Hosting doesn’t give you much in the way of statistics, reporting or marketing tools which is a shame as these can make a difference to the way your website performs.

Ease of use

The interface included with the Inmotion Hosting service is fairly easy to use once you have got the hang of it, although in general the system is not as simple or intuitive as others on the market at the moment. If you are a complete beginner you may need to spend a little time getting familiar with the way the process works until you are completely up to speed.

Help & support

While Inmotion may lack features and a certain degree of usability, it does offer a wide-ranging and professional support service. There are email and website tutorials and a knowledge base, a search function for narrowing down the options, and pages of information about all aspects of the hosting service. You can ask questions at the Community Support bulletin board or contact the Inmotion support team directly. Inmotion Hosting offers a 24-hour, seven days a week live chat service, a ticket system for submitting queries and faults, and 24-hour phone support.

Overall

Inmotion Hosting gives you good support when you’re having difficulties setting up your website within the hosting plan, which is useful when the service is not the simplest to use. Inmotion gives you a basic and comprehensive way of getting your site on the internet but there are not many extras included in the package.
