Those interested in squeezing some extra performance out of their PCs will probably be satisfied with Uniblue PowerSuite 2017. As far as performance-boosting software goes, PowerSuite is quite good. However, it lacks too many features to be considered a fully functional system-utility suite.
Uniblue is a company that is 100% devoted to the development of software that boosts the performance and stability of their customers' systems. They may not offer as broad a range of software as other developers, but this is not necessarily a bad thing. Rather, by concentrating solely on system-utility software, Uniblue has managed to consistently release top-notch products for more than 10 years. PowerSuite, Uniblue's latest offering, is no exception.
In the past, we have never had installation issues with Uniblue software. We are pleased to report that PowerSuite managed to install without a hitch as well. In fact, in just a few minutes, the installation process had completed, leaving us with an overview of PowerSuite's primary components.
Two of PowerSuite 2017's main components, RegistryBooster and DriverScanner, provide users with powerful system-repair capabilities. RegistryBooster is an easy-to-use tool that fixes minor problems and defragments the registry to improve performance and free up space. DriverScanner is, as its name suggests, a tool that scans through systems' hardware drivers. It searches for out-of-date drivers and provides users with the ability to easily install the updated drivers, which are also found by this utility automatically.
With help from SpeedUpMyPC, optimization is an area where PowerSuite stands out. While it lacks many common optimization features, such as disk defragmentation, it manages to speed up systems by searching and discovering relevant tweaks and potential performance boosts. It searches through running processes for anything that hogs resources, and it also searches for junk files that can be deleted to clear up additional hard-drive space. SpeedUpMyPC does all of these things quickly and easily. In fact, with a single click, it was scanning through our system for ways to improve performance and stability. When the scan was complete, we were presented with more than 40 performance-boosting suggestions.
As far as additional system-management utilities go, such as uninstall managers, PowerSuite is somewhat lacking. While other comprehensive system-utility products offer system-management utilities of some type, PowerSuite does not. However, from the main menu, it does provide users with a clean, easy-to-understand section of information dedicated to scan-specific data. From here, users are able to see when their last scans were performed, which errors have been fixed by PowerSuite, and more.
Uniblue openly admits that they focus their efforts on system-utility software, not system-security software. It is not surprising to find that PowerSuite does not offer any system-security features. While this is not necessarily a bad thing, especially for those who already have a system-security favorite, it is important to note that many competing products do offer a few security-specific features.
SystemTweaker – When PowerSuite is purchased, Uniblue includes SystemTweaker, a product with more than 50 system tweaks designed to increase performance and tailor the PC experience to meet users' unique needs.
Install on three PCs – PowerSuite can be installed on three systems, not just one.
ActiveProtection – As with all Uniblue products, PowerSuite comes with one full year of ActiveProtection. Essentially, ActiveProtection is a service that provides users with the updates and support needed to keep PowerSuite and their systems in top condition.
Ease of use
PowerSuite's graphic-heavy interface is very easy to navigate through. The main menu is basically a front-end menu for the software's three components. This program is well-suited for PC novices; they will have absolutely no issues figuring out how to utilize PowerSuite effectively. On the other hand, however, experienced PC users may be slightly annoyed to find that this suite is not as customizable as most system-utility software. The scheduler, for instance, only offers a handful of scanning schedules, and creating a customized schedule is simply not an option.
Help & support
Uniblue's website features a fairly substantial support section. Not only is there a detailed FAQ, the website also offers access to order information, product manuals, downloads, and more. Uniblue also responds to support inquiries via e-mail. Unfortunately, they do not offer support via telephone.
While it lacks many features that are fairly common in software of this type, Uniblue PowerSuite 2017 does manage to boost PC performance well. It is easy to use, but it is not as customizable as we would like. Overall, Uniblue PowerSuite 2017 is a great performance-boosting tool; it is not, however, the best system-utility suite.
