ParetoLogic Privacy Controls is an overall great privacy program and you certainly won't regret making it apart of you computer's security. It does everything advertised and does it well, which is scanning and removing any and all files that could leak your personal information. The only area it lacks in is in the features department.
ParetoLogic is a company with a wide array of computer software. It has software like backup, recovery, anti-virus, and more. We're going to take a look at it's privacy software and see how It stacks up with the rest.
After purchasing the product for $29.95, you simply downland the setup file and launch it. The program will take you through a simple file location setup and then quickly install itself. The time it takes from the initial download to having the program running is under a minute.
The program will run on most low-end PC's that run on windows XP or newer. The requirements are pretty minimal, so any computer bought within the last eight years should be able to run this program.
ParetoLogic Privacy Controls will clean up a wide variety of web-related information from your system. It will get rid of all cookies, history, pictures, temporary files, and more. It even found left over files from uninstalled web browsers in our tests. It supports all major web browsers, so don't worry about compatibility.
It also will clear up any privacy files related to instant messengers, P2P applications, and even email clients. You won't find much more variety from other competing privacy control software.
You don't only have private information on the web. ParetoLogic Privacy Controls will also scan and remove private files that you accumulated from your offline activity. It will delete basic files, like your Windows cache which contains your recently opened file history and search history. It will also get rid of some more advanced files, like deleted emails and Microsoft Office history. There are also many third-party programs that this program supports for scanning.
Don't be worried about accidentally deleting important files. The program, by default, won't automatically delete files after a scan. So you can look over the organized list of the types of files that are about to be deleted. It certainly won't delete anything vital to your system, however, I would hold off on doing cleanups too frequently because sometimes temporary files can save you. If you know what files you want to keep, you can take them off the scan list with ease.
Advanced Shred – The program features a basic file shredder where you can overwrite a file numerous times to make sure the file is gone for good, leaving no traces of it behind. There is a quick shred, safe shred, and thorough.
Third-party application support – Third-party programs can hold personal information too, so ParetoLogic Privacy Controls can delete files from these programs as well. Some examples include desktop search software, installed toolbars, and adobe applications.
Ease of use
Ease of use is the strongest attribute of this program. It's organized, attractive, and you'll always know exactly what you're doing. Even if you're not an advanced PC user, you will still be able to pick up this program very quickly.
Help & support
The help and support could use an upgrade. There is a help button that opens up a web page with some tutorials, but other similar programs have much more personal and instant support from real people. I doubt you run into many problems anyway, unless you plan on returning the product. You can also get help through email via their website.
Overall ParetoLogic Privacy Controls is a very good piece of privacy software. It has almost everything it's competitors have, and in some areas, it has more. It's easy to use, easy to learn, and has an attractive interface. Beginners will love this program. It might lack a feature you want, but it's up for you to decide what features are important to you.
