Twitter has today unveiled a complete re-design of its website. It's the first major re-design since the social networking website was launched in 2006.

The new look website features a new viewing pane and the ability to view photos and videos. Previously most links to rich media content required opening up a new window. Twitter have signed a deal with 16 different photo and video websites that allows them to embed content into their website.

Evan Williams, Twitter’s chief executive said, "..it’s about getting more out of Twitter in a lot less time."

Keeping users on the website also provides a greater opportunity for potential advertisers. It is predicted that Twitter will soon offer advertisements on it's website.

Twitter also hope that the new site will be even faster than before and with greater levels of stability.

It is estimated that over 80 million tweets are sent daily from the website. Twitter also has 370,000 new registered users every day.
