The overwhelming demand for spotify's free online music resource has forced the company to introduce an invite only invitation scheme.
Last week new members could sign-up to either the free version which contains radio adverts and reduced features or the premium service unlimited offering service. The free service can now only be obtained through an requested invitation.
One of the main reasons for the change was the recent introduction of spotify's mobile service available on the iPhone, iPod touch and Google Android handsets. The company has been fearing that the huge serge in new members might compromise the current service, with its servers potentially unable to cope with the demand.
Spotify now has over 8 million users worldwide. Spotify plans to launch in both the US and China in the coming months.
