Spotify cutting back on free music

Limiting the amount of free music to ten hours a month.

14 April 2011 | Category: Online

The online music service will soon be cutting back on the amount of free music available.

Spotify plans to limit the amount of free music to ten hours a month. Individual tracks will also only be allowed to played up to six times a month.

The move has already received criticism from members who claim the service is changing its membership model from free to paid users.

Last month Spotify announced it had over one million paid members, however the vast majority of members use the free service which is currently subsidized by online advertising.

The changes will be introduced at the start of May 2010.
