Google has decided to end support for Google Wave due to a lack of users.
The product was launched last year too much media hype, but despite Google's enthusiasm for the product take up by users had been low. “Wave has not seen the user adoption we would have liked,” said Urs Hölzle - Senior Vice President.
The project was developed by the Google Maps team, but it has been plagued by technical problems from the start, many claiming the interface was too technical. However many feel if wasn't necessarily technical problems which caused its downfall. Joining the service was invitation only, a strategy used to manage growth. The problem was that when people eventually joined the website very few of their friends were using the service too.
Google will continue to support the project until the end of the year.
