Controversial revenge porn website closed down by its owner

22 April 2012 | Category: Online

The owner of isanyoneup.com has shut down his website and sold the domain name to an anti-bullying organization.

Hunter Moore set the website up in 2010 after a woman repeatedly sent him explicit photographs. Moore posted them online and then created a fully functioning website that allowed members of the public to upload private naked photographs of ex-partners.

At its high the website attracted over 200,000 unique visitors a day. It successfully monetized that traffic through online advertising, with Moore reportedly earning over $10,000 a month.

The website caused public outrage, resulting in several individuals whose private pictures appeared on the website suing Moore. Pressure also came from anti-bullying organizations.

Moore continually defended the website, until he publically declared concerns over the number of under-age photographs appearing on the website. Pressure from campaign groups and legal prosecutions, is believed what led Moore to close down the website and sell the domain name to anti-bulling organization BullyVille.
