Apple have announced that it sold more than four million of its new iPhone 4S smartphone in its first weekend.
By contrast the iPhone 4 sold only 1.7 million units in its first weekend, although it wasn't launched to as many countries or providers.
The main reason for the huge rise in sales figures for the 4S was its greater distribution network. In America the smartphone was available to three network providers AT&T, Verizon and Sprint. Previously it had only been available through AT&T.
Sprint reported that last friday (the first day of the iPhone 4S launch) was the best day of sales in the companies history.
Apple is due to report earnings for its latest quarter on Tuesday.
