Steve Jobs has announced that all iPhone 4 users can claim a free rubber bumper case which will help solve a problem with the smartphones signal strength.
Apple held an emergency press conference in response to growing complaints that the new iPhone 4 has a faulty antenna. Jobs acknowledged the problem, but did not admit it had a fundamental design fault. However he did admit that all fourth generation iPhones suffer from the same problem. They also admitted that the solution wasn't perfect, but does vastly improve reception.
Apple has placed the antenna on the inside of the iPhone in the past, but took a gamble and placed it on the outside in an attempt to create more battery space in the middle of the iPhone. Users who covered the antenna with their fingers saw a significant drop in signal strength.
The bumper is available for free through the company’s website to anyone who purchased the iPhone 4 through to the end of September. Customers who have already purchased the bumper case will be reimbursed.
