Rootkits

Rootkits are a group of viruses and other malicious software programs that operate as a team. The goal of any rootkit is to undermine the stability and security of a computer without the user even being aware of their presence. A system taken over by a rootkit may behave unusually and will often try to hide or restrict access to antivirus software or other important programs. Some rootkits will also allow the programmer/hacker who made the rootkit to access the computer remotely and run software, usually ‘bots of one variety of another, covertly.
