Honestech Fireman CD/DVD Burner provides you with a set of simple tools for burning a range of disc types. With added extras in the form of DVD authoring and picture gallery creation, this is a useful tool for anyone with an interest in quick, creative disc burning.
Headquartered in Austin, Texas, Honestech Inc. has been in existence since 1998 and supplies a range of digital and audio technology solutions for consumers. We took a look at the features in the Fireman CD/DVD Burner package.
With a simple setup procedure, Fireman is quick to start and shouldn’t present you with any installation problems. Simply navigate through the setup wizard, choosing a location to store the program, and complete the installation process by finalizing the download of the software.
Fireman CD/DVD Burner presents you with a welcome menu screen that you use to carry out the range of disc burning tasks. Your first choice is to select the type of disc you want to create. There are five options: data CD, data DVD, audio and data CD, bootable CD, and bootable DVD. Without explanations of each of these options, however, it is often hard for the beginner – who doesn’t know the difference between a bootable CD and a data CD - to know which one is most suitable.
Within these categories the options include:
Once you select what type of disc you want to create, you are prompted to select the content that you want to be put on the disc. You can add files using the button on the screen or drag and drop items into the area for the files waiting to be created. With limited options available, the process is swift and straightforward. Once the files are all in place you click to start the disc burn process. The progress bar gives you information on how the disc is taking shape.
In addition to burning data and audio CDs and DVDs, you can also create ISO images to save or burn to new discs, make bootable CDs and DVDs, and create system backup/ recovery discs.
There are no specific security features found in the Honestech Fireman CD/DVD Burner package.
DVD Authoring – The DVD authoring feature gives you an additional extra piece of software which you can use to create your own DVD menus and add music and effects. There is also the opportunity to create photo slideshows of your digital images which you can burn to DVD and play on your home DVD player.
Disc Labels – Using the LightScribe technology included in the Fireman package you can create your own CD and DVD labels out of your own photos, selected artwork, and text. A handy addition, although probably not the first thing you would look for in a disc burning package.
Ease of use
Fireman CD/DVD Burner is not the best-looking or the most user-friendly of the disc burning software packages on the market, but it should not be too hard to get the hang of it once you have explored the various features available. Actually burning a disc is very simple. You just drag and drop the files into the relevant area for the type of disc you want to create, and hit the “burn” button. The burning speed is fast and the program provides all you need to simply create discs.
Help & support
Honestech, makers of Fireman CD/DVD Burner, offer a good level of customer care. The User Guide, which is available in four languages, takes you through everything you need to know to set up, run, and use the software. We like that there is a telephone support option, which not many providers give, with numbers in the US, UK, Australia, and Canada. Or you can email with a question.
We like the simplicity of the Fireman CD/DVD Burner from Honestech and the addition of DVD authoring tools makes it a good package for the home user. Disc burning is fast and efficient, and the company also gives you good support options in case you have questions or doubts.
