• Graphical user interface makes it easy to use
• Features a decent spam reporting tool
• Struggles to perform with some email clients
• Difficult to set up
• No phone support
• Fails to detect some spam email
This software is easy-to-use and has a balanced range of features that work reasonably well to keep spam out of your inbox. However, it doesn’t work well with some email clients and fails to detect some spam emails.
The software is quite easy to install and configure. It may be a slightly difficult process for novice users as it is a fairly lengthy installation process that requires the user to set up their email accounts manually and the entire installation process is a bit slow. Once Spam Agent is installed successfully, the user will be directed to the main interface where they can test their account and adjust the filter settings.
Spam Agent is compatible with all POP3 email accounts. In order for the software to work, users must ensure that their email client is purely POP3 based. There is no possibility of using webmail accounts with the software as it does not support any web-based email service, and while you can access web mail services through a POP3 email client the software tends to malfunction and does not effectively block spam email.
Spam Agent has a unique set of features that block spam and harmful attachments to keep your PC safe. The software provides the user with the ability to filter messages by sender with the option of selecting a preset filter the already contains known spam domains. It also filters messages by recipient, subject, body and a friend’s filter that allows you to input email addresses to accept emails from. Users can also create a blacklist of email addresses to automatically decline emails from and report spam emails directly to the ISP of the spammer.
Spam Agent does a decent job at detecting spam emails and protects the user from most malware found in spam emails. However, during our testing the software failed to detect some spam email and often placed messages from approved senders in the quarantine list. Further, the software occasionally allows blocked messages to get through the filter upon opening up the email client.
While running the software there are no noticeable system performance issues and it runs in the background without having any impact on other running programs. It also integrates quite well with most email clients but it does tend to slow down the computer if it is running with a regular email client.
Spam Reporting: Spam Agent allows you to report spam messages to the email service provider and look up email addresses to find out if a particular email is from a known spammer.
Attachment Protection: This feature allows you to either block all email attachments or specific attachments that contain executable programs harmful to your PC.
Ease of use
Although the software is straight forward to use it does take a while to get used to the features and settings in order to fully utilize it. Spam Agent features a graphical user interface with fully labeled icons that makes it very easy to use for any user. The easy to use interface allows the user to easily access any setting or feature and the software integrates very well with most email clients. However, it is important to note that Spam Agent works at its best if you turn off your regular email client.
Help & support
Customer support is available through the Spam Agent where customers can access a database of frequently asked questions. If you cannot find an answer to your enquiry then a contact form can be filled out to contact a staff member directly via email. Unfortunately, there is no phone support or live chat option which makes it difficult to get a quick response from the support team.
Spam Agent is decent anti-spam software that does a reasonable job in protecting users from spam emails. It has a good set of filtering and reporting features but it fails to detect some spam emails and doesn’t perform as well with some email clients. Overall, it is a useful anti-spam software that can be effective if it functions without an email client.
